Still looking for the perfect jora for Eid? There are still plenty of exhibitions in town in the last fortnight before Eid. Some of the ones worth a look-in include Ayesha Ellahi, Samina Shahjani, Nida Ali, Blocked and Nadia Ellahi. None of these will break the bank yet all have demonstrated their chic designer credentials time and again.

Samina Shajani and Shan Unar are showcasing their Eid collection of Rilli, Block Prints and Formal Wear on tomorrow and Friday 5th October. Samina uses blocks originally designed by Noorjehan Bilgrami and subsequently used by Nadia Ladkawala. She puts a modern twist on a traditional technique.

Samina Shajani blends block prints and embroidery |
Saturday 6th October sees three exhibitions. Sobia and Sumbul are showing at Grandeur Zamzama and have a good reputation though I’ve yet to see their work. Nadia Ellahi is showcasing her digital prints collection. Even though a couple of designers have already done these types of ethnic prints, Nadia has brought her own flair to the theme. Her brand typically exhibits quality, style and attention to detail and this collection should be no different.

Blocked is also showcasing on Saturday. Go early because the exhibition is always hugely popular and they are not taking orders.

Bird detail from a Blocked tunic |
Blocked is famous for its quirky, cool block prints. They feature all sorts of interesting images including teacups, birds, cages and elephants. They do have some unstitched fabric on offer but try to get hold of their stitched kurtas which have fabulous modern flattering cuts. Blocked is very reasonably priced and their outfits make for perfect, out of the ordinary day wear. You can see a sneak preview of their full collection here. Unmissable.

Whirling Dervish Blocks |
Finally do take a look in at Nida Ali on Monday 7th October. Her silk and chiffon painted/printed tunics are far from run-of-the-mill and are very reasonably priced from 4000-7500. Perfect if you want something a little different.

Best of lot of money on your shopping ban! I’ve had such issues with those because I always seem to find the most interesting aspects when I can’t buy them!
