Eid Movie Wars – what to watch this Eid Ul Adha

An Eid trip to the cinema is a must – even if the only show available is at half-past midnight. Eid means big business for films and there are 4 major movies fighting it out in cinemas this Eid Ul Adha – Baar Baar Dekho, Actor in Law, Janaan and Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai. Which one will be the best? It’s hard to tell but we’ve got the low-down on all four plus their trailers for you. It looks like this is gonna be a bumper Eid for movie-lovers…pass the popcorn, please!

Baar Baar Dekho

With hotties Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif AND the Kala Chasma song, this Bollywood movie will be the one to beat this Eid. The story by Sri Rao is an intriguing twist on the boy-meets-girl story. Jai (Sidharth) and Jai (Katrina) fall in love but, when he starts having cold feet before the wedding, he finds himself travelling to the future – experiencing how things turn out. It’s a story told through flashbacks and flashforwards, examining how we juggle romance and ambition.

Actor in Law

Starring Mehwish Hayat, Fahad Mustafa and Bollywood star Om Puri, Actor in Law has plenty of star-power under its belt. Fahad Mustafa plays an aspiring actor who becomes a lawyer to please his father Om Puri. He uses  theatrics and over the top one liners in the courtroom instead but when he faces a groundbreaking case, will he be able to use his theatricality and knowledge of the law to ensure justice? The movie has plenty of Pakistani pop culture references including the Ayaan Ali scandal, powerful news anchors and even the infamous “bright karein”. Hopefully Nabeel Qureshi, of Na Maloom Afraad fame, has come up with another rib-tickling comedy.

Janaan could be a surprise hit this Eid. Beautifully shot with a relatively new but gorgeous cast, Janaan promises to be a gloriously escapist film full of comedy, romance, action and thrills. Set in Swat and Islamabad, it tells the story of expat Meena (Armeena Rana Khan) who returns from Canada to attend her cousin’s wedding. As if culture shock wasn’t enough, Meena finds out her family is plotting an engagement with either of her cousins Daniyal (Ali Rehman Khan) or Asfandyar (Bilal Ashraf).

Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai

Starring Sajal Ali and Feroze Khan, Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai is a romantic drama about a young couple Zain (Feroze Khan) and Mahira (Sajal Ali) who married early and have a child. Zain wants to become a filmmaker while Mahria has her own dreams, which places their relationship under stress.
