An entertaining week is ahead of us with more than a few events lined up. Always abuzz, T2F will again be hosting a number of exciting events related to different genres. Catch an eccentric discussion about extraterrestrial life by speaker Salman Hameed and be a part of an open mic welcoming aspiring poets, comedians and musicians. Join a creative acting/directing workshop conducted by renowned Pakistani filmmaker, Sabiha Samar. Visit Alliance de Francaise for an art & fashion event featuring an art exhibit and a fashion showcasing works of aspiring artists and designers. There’s also a crafter’s Expo and a dodgeball championship at Bounce! Read on to learn about the events happening near you this week.
1. Science ka Adda presents: ‘Intelligent out there?”

While film, literature, and pop-culture is fraught with images of extraterrestrial life, there is little evidence to support ET life in scientific circles.
Catch Salman Hameed as he traces the history of how the idea of ET life evolved from being a pop subject to being a scientific one. Hameed will also delve into some of the challenges associated in thinking and imagining about ET intelligence, and it’s personal, cultural, and scientific implications.

2. First Fridays: Open Mic Night
T2F’s First Fridays Open Mic is a platform for musicians, poets, and comedians to perform, improvise and experiment in an informal setting.
Performers do not need to pre-register. Just show up with your voice, instruments, and props. Look for their host, Natasha Noorani, who will put your name down on the list.
Musicians get 15 minutes/3 songs and everyone else gets 10 minutes.
Registration will commence at 6:45 pm and close at 8:00 pm.

3. JLZ 2.0 (Jee Lo Zindagi)
Navigation Management Consulting brings another learning opportunity for the people of Karachi.
The theme of this conference is “Striving for Excellence”.
Excellence is something that is missing in our professional and personal life so navigation brings another opportunity for all class of people to join us at “Jee Lo Zindagi 2.0” .

4. Intensive Workshop for Actors and Directors
This is a creative workshop for those with some acting/directing experience who want to hone their skills. Its also open to those who have taken an acting/directing course. Participants will learn about analyzing a script and preparing for their role. Directors will learn how to work with actors. We will use practical exercises that enable participants to develop their skills. The workshop will be conducted by Sabiha Sumar – a Pakistani filmmaker known for her feature film Khamosh Pani that won 17 international awards, including the Golden Leopard for Best Film and Best Actress Award for Kirron Kher at the Locarno International Festival.
The workshop is great even for those who may not want to become professional actors or directors and still want to use the tools of acting and directing for self-empowerment, creative self expression and better communication.

5. The Crafter’s Expo Orientation and Open House
For those unfamiliar, The Crafter’s Expo was a craft fair started 5 years ago to facilitate and bring to the forefront local artists, crafters and makers.
Over the last 5 years, under the Crafter’s Guild, shows like the Crafter’s Expo, The Indie Art & Craft Show, Bohemian Crunch and other exhibitions, have welcomed over 400 participants, and generated an average footfall of 20,000 visitors per year.
For all crafters, newbies, seasoned and those wanting to pursue our shows will introduced to what we do, how we work, and what these shows can do for you.
This is open to all and is definitely mandatory for all those taking part at The Crafter’s Expo (2016). Please bring a sample of the product(s) you craft or create along with visiting cards.

6. Art & Fashion
ART & FASHION is a concept that brings together talented DESIGNERS and FINE ARTISTS from different parts of the city. It is a unique concept based on creativity and art work with first 3 hours dedicated to an art exhibit, whereas the next hour to a fashion show showcasing work of aspiring designers.

7. Dodge ball Championship
Bounce Karachi will soon be arranging a Dodge ball championship in their indoor trampoline park for kids and adults alike. Witness this sports event with different teams contending each other to win the championship. You can register for the championship individually or as a team of 4 or 5.

9. Guitar Classes by Asher Minhas Damanwala
Asher Minhas Damanwala teaches musicology at The Hampton School. He has been teaching guitar for the last decade.
In 2009, Minhas was the winning recipient of the ‘Battle of The Bands’ and subsequently performed at the Arts Council to great acclaim. Apart from the guitar, Minhas also specialises in singing pedagogy, and has served as a vocal trainer for the nationwide musical show, ‘Ubhartay Sitaray’.
