Less is more – Nabila’s elegant look for Misha Lakhani’s Bridal Fashion Week show |
Keep your look fresh and chic this wedding season by channeling the key hair and makeup looks from PDFC L’Oreal Bridal Fashion Week. Remember, the most perfect outfit can be ruined by bad hair or makeup and nothing is more ageing than dated makeup.

The freshness of Maram Arbaroo’s Day 1 makeup worked brilliantly with Karma’s collection |
For Day 1 makeup artists Maram Abroo presented soft, fresh modern makeup featuring shimmery eyes and glowing skin – something Maram dubs the Maharani look.

Mehreen Syed rocks Maram Aarbroo’s Maharani look for Sania Maskatiya |
The focus of this look is on pretty skin, using a sheer foundation and soft contouring for a natural looking glow. The striking eye makeup uses a mixture of plain and shimmery shadow to make the eyes pop. Darker shadow at the corners and edges of the eye frames intense shimmery shadow in the centre of the eye. A key component of this look is the absence of kajal. White liner is used in place of kajal, with just a hit of darker liner at the edges of the eye.

Bold lip colour for HSY made Maram Aarbroo’s Maharani look more dramatic |
Lip colour varied between corals, nude pink and a gypsy rose red depending on the designer’s preference. Most chose nudes and corals with pale coloured outfits and opted for the more dramatic red only with brighter outfits.

Maram Aarbroo’s shimmery eyes for Asifa Nabeel on Day 1 |
The models wore their hair in very traditional sleek buns with either a side or middle parting. This was particularly as a lot of designers were using complex hair accessories. However, according to Maram, this is a makeup look that works well with most hairdos– particularly the deconstructed braid which continues to be one of the trendiest hairstyles around.

Nabila’s day 2 look was all about the eyes |
Hair and makeup on Day 2 and Day 3 of PLBW were by Nabila, who showed distinctly different makeup each day and who presented a whole host of hair options, with different hairstyles for each designer. Common to both days was the concept of angles, with heavy contouring and textured hair to give depth and dimension.

The dramatic look Nabila opted for on Day 2 worked brilliantly with Fahad Hussayn’s grandiose headgear |
The makeup look for Day 2 was all about eyes. Nabila gave the models dark smoky eyes using subtly blended shades of grey. A dusky peach blush set off the heavy contouring for a very dramatic look. This was teamed with lipstick in every shade from the palest nude to a very dark plum. The unexpected use of deep tones of lipstick in shades of maroon and burgundy gave Fahad Hussayn and Zara Shahjahan’s shows an even more striking appearance.

Nabila’s soft makeup on Day 3 perfectly complemented Nida Azwer’s Ghalib collection |
For Day 3, Nabila chose to showcase a cleaner, more pared down look. Eye makeup was much subtler, based mainly on pale shadow with a thin sweep of liner. The outer corners were subtly defined using deeper shadow and dark liner but the eyes were left free of kajal. The pale shadow colour was used to line the inner corner of the eye for a look that subtly framed the eye. Nabila maintained the heavy contouring but chose to use only pale shades of lipstick for this look, picking shades of nude, palest pink and light coral.

Ali Xeeshan opted for blingy headpieces on Day 2 |
While several designers including Ali Xeeshan, Shamaeel and Fahad Hussayn chose to focus on headpieces rather than hair, many chose specific hairdos to complement their look. Nickie Nina’s showcase featured a textured version of the traditional buns from day 1 while Nomi Ansari opted for a high, super voluminous structure.

Dramatic Eyes and low twisted bun by Nabila for Ammara Khan |
A more contemporary selection came from Ammara Khan and Nida Azwer, who both opted for twisted buns at the nape of the neck, with the twists framing a central parting. Misha Lakhani also chose for a low bun with a middle parting but opted for a more classic slicked-down style.

Nabila’s messy hair look for Zara Shahjahan was one on the best of fashion week |
Most interesting were Zara Shahjahan and Sana Safinaz and kudos to both these designers and Nabila for the looks they sent down the ramp. Zara Shahjahan’s models rocked the messy hair look. They either left their hair open, in gorgeous messy textured waves or bound them in loose, untidy buns. Combined with dramatic eyes and deep lipstick, the effect was unforgettable.

The deconstructed side pony tail Nabila created for Sana Safinaz |
The hairstyle from Sana Safinaz’s show can best be described as a sort of deconstructed side ponytail. A little reminiscent of Jasmine’s hairstyle from Aladdin, the models’ ponytails cascaded in loose waves over one shoulder and were tied at intervals. Super trendy and oh-so-effective.

A twisty textured bun and soft makeup by Nabila for Nicki Nina |
Both hair and makeup artists showed why they are at the top of their game. From a fashion point of view great makeup is not just about enhancing someone’s features – it’s about updating and reinventing how people doll up. It’s about making a statement. Nabila and Maram Arbroo both proved they know what works on the ramp and what fashion forward makeup is.
