PEL Craft/Design Show at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2018

This year, PSFW 2018 in collaboration with PEL introduced a brand new show ‘PEL Craft/Design Show with GOLD by Reama Malik. Dedicated to the curation and projection of indigenous crafts amalgamated with high end design, this dedicated craft show was curated by Sehyr Saigol, Chairperson of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council. For this show, four designers have showcased ensembles that have transformed sub-continental craft into globally relevant luxury retail pieces. To this end, Sehyr Saigol selected artisans and designers, mentoring and monitoring them to develop techniques, skills and motifs which would enable them to update local crafts into design driven fashion. Showcasing their 4-piece capsule collections each during this show: Akif Mahmood, Hamza Bokhari, Shahroz Tariq and Zonia Anwaar have exhibited their designs. The outfits in this collection are accentuated by jewelry from GOLD by Reama Malik.

In this collection, GOLD by Reama Malik presented Gold Lure; a collection that is inspired by regional craft specific to Pakistan. Debuting at PSFW, Gold Lure featured jewelry for the modern contemporary woman, which is versatile. The jewelry can be worn casually and can also be worn as trendy evening wear. All the jewelry is made in pure gold and semi precious stones including: feroza, coral and pearl.

The capsule collection ‘Senchi’ by Zonia Anwaar from AHAN reflected rich cultural hues with traditional ‘neelak phulkari’ and geometric patterns in signature embroidery techniques. This collection also displayed a variety of exquisite hand embroideries which complemented the various hand woven fabrics from different regions of Pakistan.

Shahroze Tariq Khan showcased his capsule collected titled ‘Pixelated Euphoria’ for this segment. Inspired by 8-bit Pixel Art, Tariq has combined pixelated graphics with the euphoric feel of spring and summer. The collection uses fabrics such as pure cotton, linen, cotton net and organza and combines these summery fabrics with cross-stitch and trendy and minimalist cuts as per the theme for the show. This collection is a definite fusion of the east and west. The color tones range from pastels to red. For tariq, impactful minimalism is the trend to look out for in 2018.

Jeem by Hamza Bokhari’s capsule collection for this segment was titled ‘East Bound’. This collection was inspired by the craft of Bahawalpur. Including menswear pieces, Bokhari has used breathable fabrics such as chambrays, light weight silks and cotton. These pieces are adorned with cotton thread embroideries. The colour palette comprises mainly of pastels with a splash vibrant colours. Bokhari exemplifies effortless silhouettes and wearable art. The most distinctive feature of this capsule collection was trans-model Maavia who walked the ramp as the show-stopper. Indeed this was the first time a trans-model has walked the ramp at PFDC fashion week. Following this, Akif Mahmood closed the segment with his craft inspired capsule collection.
