A couple of plays lined up this week, promising to put on theatre like you’ve never seen before – Dastaan for the adults over at PACC and Zoo Play at NAPA to entertain the kids. The British Council Library is also putting up an Urdu Qissa Kahani, take your kids along to engage them in stories you were told as a child too. Head over to Cote Rotie for an evening full of music – Salt Soiree, The Monsoon Edition. And enjoy a little yoga on the side with the trial session being offered at PACC. It’s an eventful week.

Salt Soiree 32: Southasia Ensemble – The Elusive Monsoon Edition

The elusive monsoon, every year – forever.

The Southasia Ensemble was co-curated by Salt Arts and Ahsan Bari Music back in the monsoon of 2016, as an ever evolving orchestra of ideas tied to our collective memory of music as Southasians. To date the Ensemble has performed multiple times in Pakistan and the UK, exploring the soundscapes and the musical emotions of this region.

Copperplate Calligraphy Workshop with Daudpota Art

First time in Karachi!
Learn to write the mesmerizing traditional English calligraphy script in this beginners’ workshop.

This course is designed for the complete beginner, who will be given basic knowledge from scratch. So come join in to learn, in a relaxing, fun environment!

The participants will be taught about:

– Calligraphy Art supplies (will be provided) – Preparing, handling and using them
– The basic strokes of the script
– Formation of Miniscules (Small letters)
– Formation of Majuscules (Capital letters)
– Writing your name and a few sentences

Come on over to the library with your little ones as we re-tell timeless Urdu folktales and classics that have delighted young children for years. Join us for this month’s session, as we read the tale Chalak Khargosh by Krishan Chandar.

This children’s story is about a rabbit (khargosh) who yearns to learn the necessary survival skills to make it in the jungle. Soon the rabbit meets a wise old witch who gives him a series of things to do in order to stay safe from all the other animals. Will he succeed? Find out at this month’s storytelling session for children.

Qissa Kahani is a library programme that aims to introduce and reacquaint children to Urdu literature with interactive storytelling sessions of the most celebrated children’s stories.
