This weekend sees the annual flower show by the Horticultural Society of Pakistan and also the launch of a new play by Shah Shahrabeel at The Arts Council. Wondering where to go shopping for your Spring wardrobe? Check out some hand-embroidered numbers from Lali’s, a sample sale by Sana Rashid or if you’re looking for something casual, check out Sarah Waqas for some breezy, trendy outfits. Discover some of Karachi’s deep-rooted treasures in the form of food with Super Savari Express’ Khana Khazana Tour – your tummy will definitely thank you. British Council’s screening of Dia is certainly something you don’t wanna miss; based on a true story, this newly released film is a take on the stigma and discrimination that’s still attached to mental health problems in our society – something that’s never talked about or understood enough. On a lighter note, this week’s a blast for the kiddos – from heart-warming story-telling sessions to fun activities like making their own fridge magnets and learning how to knit… and lots more!

Funny Fortnites with LOLWaalay
If you were to tie the knot with long-form improv via arranged marriage, here is how a rishta aunty would describe it:
‘Long-form improvisation is an unscripted performance of anywhere between 20-90 minutes based off a single audience suggestion. Common elements include monologues, games and series of inter-connected scenes. Long form is much closer to theatre than short form. The final product often appears to be an improvised play. According to a popular improv director, long form is to jazz as short form is to pop’.
What an insightful and eloquent rishta aunty.

Film Club: Screening and Discussion with Hamza Bangash
Register here: https://bit.ly/2Syj5NO
This month, we’re screening a powerful short film that explores mental illness.
Hamza Bangash’s psychological thriller, Dia is a thought provoking story about a vulnerable and troubled young woman whose life is on a downward spiral as she struggles with a mental illness. Based on a true story, this newly released film is a take on the stigma and discrimination that’s still attached to mental health problems in our society.
Mariam is a sensitive law student preparing for her final year exams. She lives with her overbearing mother and younger brother in a middle class neighbourhood in Karachi. As Mariam’s exams draw nearer, her mother urges her to consider an arranged marriage. Mariam, who is in a secret relationship online, refuses. With the clock ticking, her romance takes a dark twist, revealing the extremes that Mariam will go to keep her relationship alive.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the cast of Dia and the filmmaker himself! Join us for an engaging discussion with Hamza Bangash and actors Nida Khan and Bakhtawar Mazhar who will talk about the making of the film, the intriguing characters and about mental health in our society.
The panel discussion and audience Q/A session will be moderated by Umair Bilal, a documentary filmmaker and lecturer at Habib University.
Come and take part in the session over a refreshing drink and snacks at the library.
