Rethinking Self Care: Self Care Isn’t Selfish

Aurat Raaj, in collaboration with Relivenow and Fertility Dost,
invites you to join an open discussion on holistic self care.

Taking time to check-in with yourself and recharge is often considered unnecessary or even selfish. We want to open the dialogue with women about why it’s important.

Watch Raaji’s new animated film, explore our chatbot for better health and join us for an informal discussion to explore different ways of self care.

Our agenda includes a guided meditation and art therapy session that will allow you to step away from everyday problems and think abundantly about yourself.

WHY: De-stress through art therapy. Start the conversation on well being. Network with professionals and entrepreneurs.

Note: The building security would require your NIC at the entrance, please make sure you have it.

Zambeel presents Kallu ki Kahaani Ismat ki Zabani

Kallu ki Kahaani Ismat ki Zabaani
Featuring two short stories by Ismat Chughtai: Kallu ki Maa & Kallu (version 2)

About the texts
In Ismat’s repertoire we find certain stories that have been written independently and perhaps at different times of her career, but connect nevertheless through narratives or characters. The Kallu stories presented here fall under this description, in the appearance of the same characters a few decades apart.
Interestingly, it is noted in an anthology of Ismat stories that she wrote two versions of the story titled Kallu. After writing the first version, she presented it to the eminent writer and critic Ali Sardar Jafri for a review. Both she and her peer forgot about this exchange. Preoccupied with the narrative, Ismat proceeded to write this story yet again, forgetting that she had penned an earlier version of it. There are slight shifts in approach and variations in the relationships, but the framework remains the same. Both texts are now printed under the same title, with their respective version number. In this reading, we present the second iteration of Kallu.

Kallu ki Maa: This narrative focuses on Kallu’s mother, her life journey after the death of her husband, and her experiences with her distant rich relatives who relegate her status to a servant in their household.

Kallu (version 2): Kallu / Kaleemuddin returns as Deputy Collector to the family that mistreated him in his childhood.

Fitting into Your Skin

Using creative expression as a tool to facilitate embodied healing we aim to bring together art, writing, somatic movement and dance in a customized process to help you find flow towards feeling safe and express yourself fully. No prior creative experience is needed.

This workshop is meant to help you to nurture comfort, self-acceptance and confidence as you learn what it feels like to be your authentic self. The aim of this workshop is to provide support and space to heal: for you to counter any negativity that has left you torn, unloved and unfit in your own skin. It is a step towards building a new relationship with yourself which only begins to emerge as we integrate experiences of freedom and joy into the organic expression of your truth, so that the impact of this work carries with you beyond this workshop and into your everyday life.

Consider this as a journey designed to help you build back your self-worth and emotional resilience while developing your core inner strength to navigate through the challenges that arise in life. It will help you explore parts of yourself with kindness, and will assist you through the inner work.

In Conversation with Sabyn Javeri, author of Hijabistan

REGISTER HERE: https://bit.ly/2GqOwkt

This month, we’re thrilled to have acclaimed author, Sabyn Javeri join us to discuss Hijabistan, her provocative new book of short stories that explores the link between the hijab and identity. Join us for an exclusive evening with the author where she will be in conversation with writer and critic, Hamna Zubair, and will later read an excerpt and sign copies for the audience.

Set in Pakistan and the UK, Hijabistan is a collection of short stories that revolves around women from different backgrounds with their attire as the centrepiece of their struggles and triumphs. One woman uses her hijab to help her steal, another uses it to assert her identity in a foreign land. One finds battle lines drawn across her faith, the other finds them drawn across her body. Despite all their differences however, they are united by the all-encompassing veil that either crushes or shelters them.

After her electrifying debut, Sabyn Javeri once again turns comfortably held notions on their head and uses her fiction to add to the debate about the veil that has been raging both at home and abroad.

Don’t miss this chance to discuss one of the hottest new books on Pakistan’s literary scene, and have your questions answered by the author herself!

Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event.

Science Ka Adda: Overview of Kennedy Space Center

Meet NASA’S Avionics Engineer, Hibah Rahmani

Join us at T2F on 29th April to learn about NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, their rockets and Launch Service Programs, and a wide-ranging introduction to Space Exploration and the Field of Aeronautics.

Hibah Rahmani likes to encourage young people, especially girls, to “stay focused and dream big.” That’s the philosophy she has followed since growing up in Kuwait and looking up at the night sky in awe of the moon and stars. Today, Rahmani is an avionics and flight controls engineer in NASA’s Engineering and Technology Directorate, helping launch rockets from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Kabutar: A traveling exhibition between five countries

Kabutar (pigeon in English) is a bird which has been used for ages as a symbol or messenger of hope and peace. Pigeons were trained as a method of communication by ancient Persians who started the art of training the birds. Besides Persians, Romans also used pigeon posts to aid their military over 2000 years ago.

An art collector once told me after appreciating my work, “You are part of our home, we all know you through your piece, you are there.”

When artists send their work to other territories, beyond boundaries, they send a piece of themselves. Cultural exchange programs promote diversity and communication between different nations. Artists’ work differs in different localities and regions because of the different ways we experience our lives due to circumstances. We are riding in more or less similar boats but in different oceans, hence every ocean has its serenity and storms.

Participating artists:

Italy: Alberto Magrin, Angela Vinci, and Cristiana De Marchi
Pakistan: Farrukh Shahab, Aqeel Solangi, and Hina Tabassum
The Netherlands: Daniel Ploeger, Hans Overvliet, and Jorie Kerottier
France: Frédéric Develay and Denise Fréchet
Turkey: Eda Emirdag, Cansu Eragin, and Sezen Tonguz
