We’re very excited about this session for a variety of reasons. It’s our first collaboration and that too with The Citizens Foundation (TCF)! It’s also our first Pop Up at a different time and venue! A Journey from Sir Syed Ahmad Khan To Allama Iqbal

About the Talk:

In seeking to understand present day Pakistan’s alienation from the rational sciences, we shall explore Indian Muslim attitudes towards modernity and science starting from Moghul days, their widening acceptance in the years after 1857 (spearheaded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan), and subsequent rejection epitomized by Allama Iqbal.

About the Speaker:

One of Pakistan’s most celebrated academics, Pervez Hoodbhoy is a world renowned nuclear physicist, prominent activist, as well a distinguished professor at Forman Christian College and the Quaid-e-Azam University. He has served as professor at the likes of Carnegie Mellon, LUMS, and MIT from where he obtained multiple degrees eventually leading to a PhD in nuclear physics. Bold and unapologetically progressive, Pervez Hoodbhoy is an advocate of freedom of speech. A regular contributor to dawn.com, he has also written for The Express Tribune as well as The New York Times on topics ranging from religion to education.

Inspire a life-long love of reading in your little ones with our special storytelling hour for children aged 3 years and above.

Join us for an interactive introduction to basic body parts and movements as we read Eric Carle’s fantastic book, From Head to Toe.

This time around, get ready for some fun as we clap, stomp, wriggle and bend to follow the movements of gorillas, elephants, camels and other animals. Help us copy their antics and play along with your friends for a wonderful time at the library! This session involves simple instructions where your little ones will learn the importance of listening and exercising, along with building their vocabulary.

Don’t miss the chance to bring the littlest members of your family in for a fun afternoon at the library.

Saturday Swing Night

Swing Dance originate in the 1930s taking on different forms: Collegiate Shag, Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa. Today, Lindy Hop is the most popular one left. While fast Lindy Hop is an upbeat and a true test of trust and stamina, the swing dance basic is fun, light-hearted, and quite entertaining. The basic steps (rock step, triple step, and more) will be taught in the first half of the night. The remainder will see music playing and the group swing dancing with each other. But let’s not hog a partner, dance with each other into merriment, and start the first swing scene in Karachi!!
