Valentines Special: Saturday Swing Night
Come groove to some jazzy tunes this Valentine’s Day Saturday Swing Night Special!
Bring your valentine, bring your friend, bring anyone who you would like to dance with and enjoy the spring yet chilly weekends of February. But most importantly, have a good time!
Swing Dance originated in the 1930s taking on different forms: Collegiate Shag, Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa. Today, Lindy Hop is the most popular one left. While fast Lindy Hop is an upbeat and a true test of trust and stamina, the swing dance basic is fun, light-hearted, and quite entertaining. The basic steps (rock step, triple step, and more) will be taught in the first half of the night. The remainder will see music playing and the group swing dancing with each other. But let’s not hog a partner, dance with each other into merriment, and start the first swing scene in Karachi!
*No Pre-registrations this time, walk-in registrations will start from 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM and will be given on first come first serve basis*
Disclaimer: Consent and comfort is of utmost importance. People are encouraged to meet strangers and ask others to dance, but if someone does not want to dance on a song, we request that you respect their decision. Also note that proximity during dance is a mutual decision. Kindly be nice and politely and clearly ask the other to dance and wait for their consent.

Date: Saturday, 8th February 2020

Movie Monday: The Help
The Help recounts the story of young white woman and aspiring journalist Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan. The story focuses on her relationship with two black maids, Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson, during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963.
In an attempt to become a legitimate journalist and writer, Skeeter decides to write a book from the point of view of the maids, exposing the racism they are faced with as they work for white families. Black domestic workers in 1960s America were referred to as “the help”, hence the title of the putative journalistic expose, the novel and the film.
