What’s On in Karachi: 6th July to 12th July

This week offers lots of art related events, whether you’re interested on the impact of design, or want to learn more about film-making, there are many events to engage more with your artistic side. Simultaneously, as the world cup fever builds up we’d recommend catching a couple of the screenings with your friends and family.

Design Meetup 01: The Impact of Design

We are bringing together leaders in their fields, to discuss the impact design has in their fields and on our daily lives. Specifically discussing the influence, best practises and value of design in banking, education, tech and public spaces.

We aim to foster creative thought and conversation and would like to see this series of talks build a more accessible, collaborative and design-centric community.

Book Launch: The Pop-Culture Junkie’s Guide to Pakistani Cinema

Calling all film buffs!
Do you like movies? Do you like talking about movies? Are you excited about Pakistani cinema’s alleged ‘revival’? if you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then you’re invited! Come over and enjoy Beyond Sanity Media’s ode to the pop-culture aficionados of Pakistan. Meet author Ushah Kazi, indulge in some intense film talk, and of course have fun!

About the Writer:
Ushah Kazi is a Canada based Pakistani writer. She loves to cook, watch movies and talk politics. And whenever she can, she writes about them too. This is her first book.

Breath Body Mind Workshop with Dr. Bilal Ahmed

A one-day, walk-in workshop!

Tap into the innate wisdom of your body through breath and movement through ancient practices that have been scientifically verified by modern neuroscience. These practices improve emotion regulation; resilience to stress, anxiety, PTSD, attention; and optimize cognitive function and behavior.

Breath-Body-Mind practices (BBM) are easy to learn, do not require any prior experience and can be used anywhere, including at home or office, healthcare facilities, or in school, in order to feel calmer and more focused.

About the Instructor:
Bilal Ahmed is a medical doctor(MBBS) by profession with a special interest in mental health and mind-body medicine. He is a certified Level 1 Breath-Body-Mind (BBM) teacher and has assisted workshops in the US, including at the Kripalu institute for Yoga and has been studying various mind-body practices.

Mission to Mars: Design Your Own Mars Rover! (For Kids)

This summer, we’re taking you on a space adventure!

Join us on a thrilling mission as we design and build a functional Mars Rover at the library – you’ll get to plan, construct, program and test an authentic 6-wheeled rover on a simulated surface of the Red Planet!

Our 5-day workshop captures the experience of an actual space exploration programme, with the use of a disassembled purpose designed rover kit and a highly immersive software for young space scientists and engineers to control their rovers from Mission Control on Earth.

So come on over to the library and get ready to launch and operate your very own Mars Rover!

First Fridays Open Mic: July Edition

Join us at Faraar Gallery, T2F on the first Friday of July 2018 for an open mic night featuring Karachi’s emerging talent!

T2F’s First Fridays Open Mic is a platform for musicians, poets, and comedians to perform, improvise and experiment in an informal setting.

Performers do not need to pre-register. Just show up with your voice, instruments, props or whatever else you may need to get perform. Look for our host who will put your name down on the list – spaces are limited, so first come, first served!
