What’s on this week in Karachi:

 Brace yourself for an entertainment-packed weekend. Let your hair down and lead yourself into a mystical journey with the great maestro Abida Parveen, or rock on with Shehzad Roy at the Karachi Youth Festival 2016.  Bring out your inhibited classical dance skills by attending a workshop on the fundamentals of Kathak by Farah Yasmeen Shaikh.  Dance side by side with the seasoned artist, ending the workshop by taking part in the grand finale. Explore another side of music and learn how  to build up emotional wellness, through  the age old practice of communal drumming. Meet Ibadullah Sheikh, and learn how his experience, interest, and passion has led him to practice as a public drum circle facilitator and discover the therapeutic power of drumming.

If you prefer a quieter evening, the Alliance Francaise will be hosting a photography exhibition which constitutes a collection of more than 100 photographs submitted by members of the Facebook group ‘AAJ KA RANDOM’.

Chuck away the week’s stress and enjoy a laughter packed evening with the LOL walay. Join in with the shenangins of this stand up comedy group that will have you in rolling in frenzy by the end of the night.  Coming to you once again at the PACC, guaranteeing you an evening packed with fun, frolick and suprises.Bring out the Whizz kid in you, and check out the Magnifi-Science exhibition. A one-of-its kind event, fun for all ages, test out your skills and knowledge with different interactive demonstrations. If you are one that enjoys the outdoors, then make your way to Zamzama park for the annual Pakistan Bonsai Show.  Fetch your gardening gloves and get ready to dig in. Attend workshops, and get tips from experts on how to perfect the art of cultivating.


Abida Parveen and Asrar – Live in Concert

Grab your ticket fast for a live musical performance by the ‘Queen of Sufi Music’. Known to the world as one of the greatest mystic singers of the world, karachites have a chance to admire her ghazals and Kafi’s this weekend. Joining in with local musician Asrar, a soulful evening is guaranteed for all music lovers.

The Art of Kathak

A unique opportunity to learn and perform with the famous Kathak dancer Farah Yasmeen Shaikh. She will be sharing her traditional, yet innovative style of this classical dance form. Participants will have the chance to learn the fundamentals of Kathak, culminating into a performance.

Dholi Taro : Drum Circle 

Join in with Ibadullah Sheikh, a facilitator at Taskeen (mental health initiative), to explore the therapeutic powers of communal drumming. Learn how to nurture you physical, emotional, and social sensitivities through an age old practice of therapy.

Aaj Ka Random AKR Photography Exhibition 2016

Come view photographs accumulated by a diverse group of people from several nationalities. This is a collection of varied demographics represented through photographs that are spontaneous, interesting, intriguing, and showing the ordinary in the most extra ordinary.

LOL Walay 

Laughter is the best medicine and there is no better way to de-stress yourself! Bring your hectic week to an end with Karachi’s most famous stand up comedy troupe. This all-male troupe have a few surprises up their sleeve, head on over to find out what they have in store! The LOL Walay promise to bring you a rib tickling, entertaining and hilarious night.

Dawood Foundation : Magnifi-Science Exhibition

A  Magnify-Science Exhibition explores the 3 main themes of Basic Science, Science of Technology and Earth Science.  A fantastic learning opportunity for all ages, children and adults. This exhibition aims to encourage all those for a quest for science, with different interactive exhibits, experiments and expositions.

Bonsai Show

The Pakistan Bonsai society will be hosting its 2016 Annual Show.  An excellent opportunity for novices, the society will be running free workshops all 3 days. Experts will be on-site imparting advice on how to cultivate your own tree through special techniques, styles, and tools. Come along and sharpen your green thumbs!
